The daily spelling game

Tafilo — the round of the day

Every morning, a fresh short text hides a handful of spelling mistakes. Your job is to find them. One round a day, the same one for everybody, read aloud. Five minutes, and no account needed to play.

How it works

The whole thing fits in one sentence: you read the text, you tap the words that look misspelt, then you submit. Nothing to type, nothing to install.

The score runs from 0 to 10 and penalises over-flagging: tapping every word gives you zero. That is what keeps the round honest, and the daily leaderboard with it.

Why one round a day

Keeping your spelling sharp shouldn't feel like homework. We wanted a short fixed appointment, like the morning crossword: one text, a few traps, one rule learned, and back again tomorrow. Everyone playing the same round on the same day changes everything — you compare results, you argue the borderline cases in the comments, and now and then a player gets us to change a marking.

The game is built first for adults who like words: large type, strong contrast, no notifications, and no account to create before playing the round of the day.

Common questions

Do I have to pay?

No. The round of the day is free for everybody, every day, with no account required. Membership is optional: it opens the archive, unlimited practice, detailed statistics and the reserved games. You can play for years without ever paying.

Do I need to install an app?

No, the game runs straight in the browser, on computer, tablet and phone.

Where do the texts come from, and who checks the mistakes?

The texts are written for the game, on a theme, and the mistakes we plant are the ones people really make. Each round is then read again by several independent checks and finally by hand. Spellings that are legitimately different on either side of the Atlantic — colour and color, travelled and traveled — are never marked wrong.

What if I think a marking is wrong?

Write to us. We look again, we settle it by citing a source, and when a player is right we change the marking and recompute the scores.
