Today's round
Play today's round
A fresh text, a handful of hidden spelling mistakes, five minutes. Today's round is free and identical for every player until midnight.
How a round goes
- Listening. The text is read aloud exactly as written, mistakes included: a misspelt word is read misspelt. The gap between eye and ear is often the best clue. You can replay it and slow it down.
- Marking. You tap the words that look wrong; a second tap undoes it. Nothing to type.
- Submitting. It closes the round and opens the result.
How the score works
The result separates three things: mistakes found, mistakes missed, and words flagged wrongly. The mark out of 10 subtracts wrong flags from good finds, so marking the whole text gives you zero, never ten. The number of mistakes is not shown while you play — judging that is the game.
Each mistake is then explained by the rule behind it, and a daily leaderboard places your result among the others.
Three habits that win points
- Read in phrases, not word by word. Most traps are agreement traps: a subject and its verb, a plural, a possessive. They only show themselves once you look at what the word belongs to.
- Distrust words that sound alike. "their" and "there", "its" and "it's", "affect" and "effect", "practice" and "practise": the ear cannot separate them, only the grammar can.
- Don't flag on a hunch. A rare, technical or old-fashioned word is not a mistake. Every wrong flag costs a point: when in doubt, leave it.
When does the round appear?
